Sensitive skin is an hyper-reactive skin, but sensitive skin is not allergic skin.

The factors involved in sensitive skin are various: application of unsuitable cosmetics , stress , periods , diet , smoking , environmental factors ( pollution, wind, cold or sudden temperature changes , air conditioning , sun ... ) .

AND ALLERGIC SKIN

Allergy suppose a first contact with a substance called an allergen. This substance can be pollen, dust mites, food protein, a component of cosmetic ... The allergic skin manifestations are various.

In case of allergy, it is advisable to see a doctor or a dermatologist and to make tests with the suspected products. Then, the patient should “be educated” and learn to spot these sensitizing molecules and to avoid them. GLOSSARY : WHAT ARE THE ALLERGEN , PHTHALATES ?

An allergen is a substance, a particle, an organic body ( atom , molecule , protein ) which can cause an allergic reaction in a subject previously sensitized when it is in contact (usually in contact with the skin , inhaled , or ingestion). Dust , pollen, animal dander are the most common allergens , although many other substances can become an allergen for a given subject , including ... The scents that are the cause of a majority of skin allergies. That is why now, 26 allergens fragrances must now be reported from a certain threshold in the INCI lists of perfumes & cosmetics. Here are a few of them: geraniol , eugenol , Cinammal , limonene , linalool , coumarin ... Natural essences or essential oils (eg lemon or orange) generally contain many allergens. A hypoallergenic perfume is a fragrance allergen free. It is formulated to minimize the risk of allergies.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals. They enter into the composition of virtually all PVC items, but also drugs, cosmetics and also food. In cosmetics, they are used as preservative.
